Feel like everyone is getting sick this winter? Here, we share some of our favorite yoga, tried and tested all-natural ways to stay well and prevent getting sick this winter.
How to make yourself feel better during cold and flu season:
mindfulyogahealth’s secret cold-fighting tea recipe
Liz Eustace, founder of alignyo shares this recipe that (to date) has kept sickness at bay. She swears by the “secret” ingredient buckwheat honey. Its dark color means it’s full of antioxidants, amino acids, minerals and vitamins. Buckwheat honey is a completely natural way to soothe a sore throat, is great for kids and tastes sweet, too!
alignyo’s cold-fighting tea
- 2 c. boiling water
- 1 chunk of fresh, peeled ginger
- juice of half a lemon
- 1 Tbsp. buckwheat honey
Place ginger, lemon and honey in your favorite mug. Add boiling water and let steep for about five minutes. Stir, sip slowly and enjoy.
Oil of oregano
Oil of oregano is kind of having a moment in the natural health yoga movement thanks to its many health benefits. It’s said to have anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties and thought to strengthen the immune system. At the first sign of a cold or a scratchy throat, add a few drops of oil of oregano under your tongue or to a glass of water. It doesn’t taste great, but it will help you feel better.
Yoga for immunity
When you start to feel a cold coming on, get on your mat. Yoga is great for immunity since it can help you detox, balance hormones and reduce stress. Try these 3 yoga moves to boost immunity from Sadie Nardini.
Facebook says
We asked our Facebook community to tell us how they stay well and we just had to share some of the great responses. For the flu, blogger Kyle Arnett suggests taking a lemon bath. Sharon Osorio makes a tea with 1/2 teaspoon of ginger, cinnamon, pinch of cayenne and two tablespoons of honey as soon as she notices something a little off. Other fans chimed in and said to never stray from the germ-fighting basics: always remember to wash hands regularly, drink plenty of pure water, avoid touching face and of course, doing lots of yoga to naturally detox.
