Amy's class is as unique and quirky as her personality. If she asks for requests, don't hesitate to speak up and then watch her magic as she creates a sequence to simultaneously stretch, strengthen and explore all the muscles associated with your requests. You leave feeling like you've been introduced to parts of your anatomy you didn't know you had and have been educated on how to move in ways you've never thought of. Even though the learning is intense, her continual jokes, laid back teaching style and modern playlist keep the class light-hearted, fun and engaging.

Love.

Amy is not only an incredibly knowledgable teacher of asana but a wonderful human being with the biggest heart you'll ever find. She is witty, smart, compassionate, and deeply invested in her students. This woman can make me laugh in virabhadrasana III. Either I have an awesome sense of humor or she is just hilarious. Probably both.

Amy Yoga

Amy is the finest yoga teacher. Her class is so much fun that I didn't even realize that I was learning. I credit Amy with deepening my practice and inspiring me to live a more meaningful life.

My back

My back hurt badly. I went to Amy's class, and now it hurts less. I don't know how she does her yoga magic, but I just assume not fool with it on my own. I'll just keep going to her class and let her do her voodoo.

Amy deFillippi

Amy is the bomb. She makes her class a powerful and joyful experience. Nancy

Fantastic teacher

I started taking yoga to strengthen my back due to an athletic injury. I tried several yoga classes at Equinox and quickly settled on hers as my favorite. Unfortunately she only teaches once a week at the gym near my apartment otherwise I would easily take her class several times a week.

Unlike other yoga instructors I have tried she is the only one that takes the time to focus on proper technique which is great for a beginner who wants to make sure he is doing the postures correctly. We are not just led in a series movements where I only hope I am doing it correctly and not going to re-injur myself. She watches every student and is sure to spend time with each to make sure they understand what they are doing and why they are doing it. At the same time her spending time with an individual does not impact the class. We learn a lot from hearing her correcting others. This class is by no means only for beginners. As I have improved my practice I find I am still learning from her, still getting a workout and am better prepared when I take yoga classes other days when she is not teaching. With Amy I am not only going through the motions but I am also learning the philosophy and physics. I do not get that anywhere else.

One more thing is she makes it a point to get to know each student and their weaknesses. She has been a great physical therapist in helping me understand my body and working postures into the class that are beneficial to my recovery. Yoga with her is not just a group class it is a private class.

Incredibly cute and great fun!

Finally found the perfect fit! Amy knows her stuff and and patiently helps you with your technique w/ a smile and great humor. I actually count the minutes for when I get off work and get to go to yoga class now. Specifically HER yoga class.

I whole heartedly agree with Angela Errcio's observation regarding Amy's "purity of spirit".So true.

Wish I had found out about her sooner, which is why this site is indispensable.

Amy knows her stuff

Great Iyengar teacher without dogma or judgement. Creates a great learning environment.

Amy is the best!

I am fairly new to yoga, and in my quest to find a unique teacher that makes the student feel comfortable I found Amy. Amy uses her knowledge of yoga combined with her personal skills to energize her class and to allow her students to feel empowered. Her sense of humor makes her classes fun, and her knowledge is truly impressive. I will undoubtedly spread the word that Amy DeFilippi is one of a kind!

Amy my favorite yoga teacher by far

Amy is not only a fantastic yoga teacher, but a funny, generous person whose kindness makes her class something to really look forward to. You'll be stretched and challenged, and will enjoy every minute of it.

Amy

Amy had been my private instructor for many years in Honolulu. Amy redefines zeal, passion and love for Yoga. She was a amain catalyst for me still practicing some 15 years now..

Aloha

Amy is a tremendous teacher

Amy has a fantastic balance of technique and temperament that I have found lacking in teachers who focus on the shallower aspects of the practice. She attuned to the foundation of yoga, and also to so many of the human frailties that bring people to it. I can't recommend her highly enough.

Amy is AWESOME!

I am glad you got to practice with Amy. Amy is an awesome teacher. She has so much experience, and remains so humble. Her heart is truly gold, I highly suggest checking Amy out anywhere that you can. And if you are having a tough day, I pretty much guarantee going to her class and talking to her will remind you of the silver lining!
