You might expect a handstand-heavy class from this retired gymnast, but Alex doesn’t make this the focus. This humble yogi is very attuned to the needs of the body, and understands that anyone’s yoga practice can get stronger if they have deeper knowledge of how the body is supposed to feel in each pose. The first part of the class focuses on using a block, squeezing it in between the palms of the hands to truly feel how active the arms are meant to be in each pose. Chair pose is for more than just the thighs – our arms are meant to burn too. Perhaps we already know that, but put a block between your hands to seal the deal and your arms will be reminding you of this fact for days. All blocks aside, expect a well-rounded, vinyasa flow class with the full lineup: inversions, backbends, forward folds, and twists. Feel like you are going to fidget in savasana? Here's a quick tip for the restless bunch of us: Place a blanket on your thighs. The weight of it will help you to feel more grounded, thus giving you a higher probability of relaxing and enjoying the benefits of this yummy pose. Thanks, Alex.
