If you are looking for a teacher that can really explain how each pose is supposed to feel in your joints, this class is for you. Calvin has obviously been well trained in the anatomy of the body, and its inherent tendencies as it moves through each pose. “Raise your right arm out in front of you and your left leg out behind you. If you notice your hip is coming forward, pull it back toward the back wall, and turn your pinky toe down toward the mat to square off your hips.” He gives the kind of cues that make you think, “Oh, wow – I didn’t realize my hip went forward as I raised my hand out in front of me.” The way he explains how to correct your alignment is not only straightforward and easy to follow, it makes you aware of how much more challenging each pose is when the correct muscles are engaged and the proper alignment is in place. The class itself it very well rounded, with lots of vinyasa flows, ab work, twists, and even some time doing inversions on your mat or at the wall. In short, if you are looking for a knowledgeable, charismatic teacher who gives a sweaty vinyasa flow class that will surely require a shower and a change of clothes, this class is for you.
