It was a privilege to take class with Amrit Singh Khalsa at Yoga West. Not only has he been practicing and teaching Kundalini Yoga for almost two decades, but he has also been a teacher’s teacher since 2007. Here’s a little back-story on him: After graduating with a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from MIT he went to work for the Yogi Tea and Golden Temple Cereal company where he worked with Guru Singh, the President of Yoga West, as well as Yogi Bhajan (who brought Kundalini yoga to the U.S.) Currently, Amrit is working as the CFO of an organic snack food company. We gave him this robust intro to give you the sense that this is not your average yoga teacher – and that was apparent when we took his class. Interestingly enough, the focus of the particular class we went to was on creating more of a positive relationship with food. Amrit told stories and taught us different kriyas (“exercise sets”), breathing techniques, and mantras to help us bring consciousness to what we eat, as well as aid with digestion. His class was not just another forgettable flow class – the message and practice deeply impacted us.
