In regards to yoga, I really am not into looking for differences; similarities are more interesting to me. It seems to me that all of the yoga teachers that I have had the privilege of knowing are hardworking, committed people devoted to improving themselves so as to be better able to help the students who come to them to develop more serenity and happiness, which may facilitate the arising of enlightenment, the ultimate goal of yoga.

Guru, Scripture and music are three major influences. First and foremost, my beloved gurus, Shri Brahmananda Saraswati, Swami Nirmalananda and Shri K. Pattabhi Jois have been my guiding lights. The spiritual insights, which have been recorded in the Yoga Scriptures and other religious texts in the form of mysterious riddles and poetry, provide me with a lifetime of esoteric codes for me to try to crack open. I have also been hugely influenced by music, perhaps because it is closest to the world of spirit. To cite my musical influences and name some of my favorite musicians would take way too many pages - and besides, if I name one musician, I will undoubtedly leave out someone else. If you want to know what kind of music I like, then attend a class with me and listen to the playlist. Besides, the best way to hear music is while you are standing on your head.

I hope students leave class with a renewed sense of happiness and recommitment to living life more fully and wildly.
