Jennifer Brilliant

I have been teaching for 25 years. I am focused on the body, letting the clarity of the body be the philosophy. Our bodies have so much wisdom and want to move. I am interested in how people think about their movement, their habits and their possibilities. My recent philosophical studies of the ancient yogic texts have deepened my understanding of the practice. Being attentive when teaching is very important to me.

My earliest influence was my parents dancing in the living room after dinner for fun. I’ve been fortunate to have had many phenomenal teachers to whom I have a deep gratitude. Among my yoga influences are Rodney Yee, Ramanand Patel, Genny Kapuler, and Barbara Benaugh. My other touchstones are Jennifer Muller (dance), Kathy Grant (Pilates) and the Alexander Technique. But my teaching is most informed by the lessons I learn from my students creating a practice together in which their inner teacher is found.

I want my students to leave class feeling good in their skin, to have more awareness, more compassion, and more vitality. With greater freedom of movement, students can be more grounded, and are able to de-tangle the layers of their physical and energetic selves.
