I like to work. In my class there’s no shortage of sweat. But, I was taught that yoga is more than chaturangas and handstands. So while I do offer a fierce, physical practice, my teaching is always in reverence to spirit.
Too often we’re ready to say that we can’t do this or that without ever really putting thought into why we can’t. I offer students a challenging class not because they can’t do it, but because they can. I hope that they leave class empowered with a sense that very few things are impossible.
It was just me and my mom growing up. She raised me and gets the lion’s share of responsibility for who I am today. She also took me to my first yoga class when I was 18 years old. If it weren’t for her good grace, I wouldn’t have the honor of answering these questions. My teacher, Raghunath Cappo, not only taught me how to hold a handstand but he also introduced me to a world where compassion is a lifestyle.
