Having a hard time getting back into your daily schedule after the holidays? Need help sticking with your New Year's resolutions? Aura Cacia aromatherapist Charlynn Avery has a few suggestions for essential oils that can help you stick with your New Year's resolutions and get back into balance.

After the holiday season subsides, we can find ourselves struggling to get back to normal. This time of year, while inspiring for change on many levels, can also prove to be a challenge. With the combination of cold weather and long nights, we may be left feeling like we would rather crawl back into bed instead of resuming our normal routine. However, if you want to sail into the New Year with relative ease, consider beginning 2014 with a few essential oils that can be of assistance.

How essential oils can help you stick to your New Year’s resolutions:

Get back to your regular sleep schedule with lavender

Don’t wait until the night before the first day back to work or school to reset your clock. Sleep is crucial for all areas of health and wellbeing, and staying up late is a tough habit to break. Start by diffusing a relaxing oil like lavender at bedtime to encourage rest.

Get energized with peppermint

Taking peppermint essential oil with you when you need to get going is a great way to wake up and stay alert naturally. Perfect for car, home or at work and school, peppermint is a refreshing way to shift back into first gear.

Revive the old gym bag or shoes with sweet orange

Sweet orange oil is one of the better choices for deodorizing. If you resolve to hit the gym harder in 2014, you may need to refresh your odorous gear. Add 10 drops to ½ ounce of white vinegar and spray the inside of your shoes, your gym or mat bag, etc. Let it air dry and you are ready to go!
