Summer is in full swing. Dog days are here but don't let the weather slow down your practice. Consider taking your practice outside of the studio and into the great outdoors. The fresh air is very beneficial to your breath and the soothing sounds of nature provide a unique playlist for your practice.

Here are 4 ways to take your practice outside:

Remember how magical it was to camp in your own backyard as a kid? Practicing yoga in your own backyard can be just as special! Transform your backyard into a relaxing space by hanging a wind chime from your back door. Flow to the soothing sounds created by the breezes and drink in the spring air.

If you live in an urban area, your only accessible patch of green is probably in the local park. Some local studios and lululemon stores host free (or affordable) yoga in the park classes during warmer months. If you can't find one in your area, gather together a group of friends for a special yoga in the park date. Be sure to bring a portable iPod player as well as your mats and listen to your favorite yoga teacher's class and move together. Yoga Download has some great free mp3 yoga classes.

Also, be on the lookout for special rooftop yoga classes in your city. We've been to amazing yoga experiences in New York and Chicago that gave us a totally different perspective on our hometown and our practice.

If you live a near a beach, lucky you! Standup paddleboard yoga is one of the most fun ways to take your practice outside, (just don't forget the SPF). To begin, take a class in your area to learn the safe way to perform your favorite poses on the paddleboard. You will find that SUP can really take your practice to the next level as it requires excellent balance. Live near a beach but not ready for SUP? Try finding a beach yoga class in your area or getting together with your yoga pals to create your own BOGA (beach yoga) experience.

We at alignyo plan to get some grass stains on our mat this summer by practicing yoga in the park. One of our favorite programs in the 11-year old Bryant Park Yoga Program happening every Tuesday and Thursday. Simply awesome and free. Tell us about your favorite outdoor yoga experience.
